Hilton Garden Inn Kauai is Hilton’s only property on Kauai. It is conveniently located in Wailua Bay about 10 minutes from the airport and is less than 15 minutes to numerous restaurants. The hotel is right next to Lydgate Park with a beautiful beach and snorkeling area. The lobby is open air like many lobbies in Hawaii and has a small restaurant and bar. The hotel offers both traditional hotel rooms and two room cottages. Unfortunately most of the rooms do not have balconies. The ground floor rooms do have a small patios with two chairs. Beware however, there are chickens, LOTS of chickens. As a matter of fact, the whole island is full of chickens. Not sure what that is about but it does add to the unique personality of the island.
We stayed in a king junior suite with an ocean view. I used 281,000 points and paid $125 per night for our 4 night stay. The website lists this type of room for $309 per night. Hilton franchised this hotel in 2015. It underwent a renovation and reopened in 2016. The decor resembled other Hilton hotels and the Hilton bed and linens made Hilton’s touch apparent. The entrance to the bathroom was a barn door and there was a kitchenette with a small refrigerator and microwave with open shelves. The room was comfortable and spacious. The hallways of the Hilton Garden Inn Kauai, like the lobby, were open air. Fortunately the chickens did not find their way in.
The hotel charges a $22/day resort fee. This includes a complimentary Mai Tai each night, 2 hours complimentary bike rental, cooler and beach mat usage and a sunrise ceremony. The Kauia path is virtually next door for you biking or walking pleasure, The path is wide and smooth and runs right along the beach providing gorgeous views. Definitely take advantage of the Mai Tai coupons. The bartenders are friendly and happy to offer tips and advice on the area. We met a different couple each evening and thoroughly enjoyed the conversations. The hotel offers breakfast for $21. Ours was comped because of our diamond status. That added up to a savings of $168 for us. The food is tasty and they are more than happy to make your eggs or omelet to order.
I was a little nervous after booking Hilton Garden Inn Kauai. Some of the reviews I read were not good but overall we really enjoyed our stay. I would compare this hotel to your favorite pair of jeans, comfortable, relaxing but not appropriate everywhere.
